Program Description

Costa Rica is a pioneer in eco-tourism and sustainable practices. This provides students with a unique opportunity to understand and implement eco-friendly principles in the hospitality industry. Costa Rica's rich cultural heritage and friendly people make it an ideal place to learn about multicultural customer service and diverse guest interactions.

As you study in this tropical paradise, you'll gain hands-on experience in managing guest services, eco-friendly practices, and cultural sensitivity. By embracing "Pura Vida," students can gain a deeper understanding of Costa Rican culture and values. It encourages them to approach their studies and life in general with a positive and open-minded attitude, making their experience in Costa Rica even more enriching and enjoyable.

This Summer Study Abroad Program is a 10-day program. 

The program is open to all students meeting the course prerequisites. No language skills will be required; all courses/lectures will be taught in English. Two Saturday course sessions will be held on the UL-Lafayette campus prior to departure.

Cost

The program cost is $3,420, plus University fees of $140, totaling $3,560. After you have applied for your desired program, you must make a deposit of $500 via ULINK. The $500 deposit is applied towards the cost of the program. The initial deadline to apply and pay the deposit is December 15th. A $100 late fee will be charged after December 15th. Program cost includes tuition for 3 credit hours, lodging, most meals, field trips and excursions, and academic activities. Airline information will be provided to the group of participants, but airfare is not included in the program cost and must be purchased by the student. Other personal expenses include passport and visa costs, eating out, shopping, entertainment, and personal health insurance.
