on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, Quebec City is a UNESCO World
Heritage site with its rich history and well-preserved old quarter
being the only remaining walled settlement in North America. . . .

Tour with UL faculty and students the 400 year-old
city quarter, perched on and below Cap-Diamant, a set of steep bluffs
overlooking the St. Lawrence. Old Quebec includes an Upper Town
formed from a maze of narrow streets with shops, markets, and
restaurants that surround the Chateau Frontenac, the Plains of Abraham
(the actual battlefield where the fate of the French and British in
North America was decided), and the Quebec Parliament; and also a Lower
Town, where is found Place-Royal, the site of the first permanent
settlement in New France, the Naval Museum of Quebec, and the Old
Port.. . .
Study and lodge in nearby Laval University, the
largest French university in North America, on a modern campus of 500
acres with over 40,000 students, less than four miles from Old Quebec.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Dates: July 6th-August 8th
Credits:
Six college credits earned by taking regular UL courses offered in
Anthropology, English, History, Modern Languages, and Humanities
and taught in English by UL-Lafayette faculty. All students will
take a non-credit, non-graded workshop conducted by Laval
University staff on survival French and Quebec culture. All UL courses
will be adapted to the special learning environment available while
living in Quebec.
Students will take frequent day-excursions and
field trips with their classes, and also will have opportunities to
travel in the region during extended weekends. The program includes a
planned weekend in the city of Montreal with guided tours and trips to
important urban sites. In 2008 students will have an exceptional
variety of music and cultural events to choose from as the Provincial
Government of Quebec and the Government of Canada sponsor a summer-long
series of special celebrations in honor of the 400th anniversary of the
founding of Quebec City.
COSTS
Costs
include: tuition and fees, single accommodations in Laval
University dormitories, two covered meals per day (breakfast and
lunch), metro passes, and museum entrance fees and transportation for
program-sponsored weekend trip to Montreal.
Airfare is not included and must be purchased by the student.
Total cost if registering before March 1, 2008: $3600.00 After March 1: $3700.00
